Modern Coastal Bar + Counter Stools

A kitchen island is a wonderful spot for family to enjoy casual meals together, and the right bar or counter stools can transform your kitchen. When choosing a stool, choose something comfortable and easy to clean. The upholstered barstools in the photo above are slipcovered for easy cleaning. We also love a textured stool…think rattan or jute for a modern coastal vibe.

Here are a few of our favorite bar and counter stools:

Cottage on Cabot

We were so honored to have this recent design project featured in the latest issue of Cottages & Bungalows magazine!

Cottage on Cabot is actually the home of top Pineapple Girl, Lisa Peterson. She is an interior designer and the co-owner of Pineapples, Palms, Etc.

Lisa has always dreamed of living in a comfortable, relaxed, Florida Cracker style cottage, with views and breezes from the water that create her “Barefoot Dream” lifestyle.

“Cottage on Cabot” was built with the true Florida Cracker architecture of the past, and blends perfectly with its historic surroundings. Cracker architecture was used widely in the 19th century in Florida. Florida cracker homes are characterized by metal roofs, wrap around porches, long and straight central hallways from the front to the back of the home. Peterson loved this concept so she incorporated many windows and doors that open onto the large deck, allowing the constant ocean breeze to fill the house.

Shelf Candy

The right styling for shelving in your home can make a big difference in creating a space that feels complete. Balance and placement are important, but you should also consider using your personal collections that are meaningful to you. Displaying family photos in frames will help personalize your look.
We like using books, boxes, coral, picture frames, and other small accessories. Decorative bookends are functional and beautiful at the same time. The key is to create a pleasing look, that doesn’t look “decorated”.

How To Style A Console

The console is one of the most versatile pieces of furniture in your home. When styling a console you should consider what room it will be in, and how you need it to function. The most popular spaces are foyers, dining rooms & under TV’s in a family room, or bedroom.

Balance and scale are very important. We like a large piece of art or mirror hung over the console. A common mistake is to hang the art too high. It’s important to hang your art close to the console to avoid seeing a lot of blank wall space between the two.
Consoles look great with a pair of tall lamps, or hurricanes flanking each side to add height. A lower decorative bowl, or large piece of coral in the middle looks amazing! A stack of books add interest as well. We like larger pieces to reduce the clutter, and give more importance to the space.

Modern Coastal Easter Decor

Easter is right around the corner!  The Pineapple Girls love using modern coastal elements to add a fun and interesting twist to the traditional ways of decorating and displaying Easter eggs.

We were looking for ways to style a coffee table for an upcoming Easter gathering and decided to use these new white rope lanterns that just came in to the store. We love the coastal look of these lanterns, which can be used to hold candles…or even Easter Eggs!

Here is a quick and easy tutorial for how to use the lanterns to create a stylish coffee table for Easter:

Happy Easter from The Pineapple Girls!

20 Throw Pillows For Your Coastal Home

We are always talking pillows, and as in our previous blog posts,  adding new throw pillows to a room is one of the easiest ways to freshen up your decor. The Pineapple Girls love throw pillows and there are so many options for your coastal inspired home.

We love belgian linen, ikat and personalized pillows in fresh, crisp fabrics. We also think throw pillows should be luxuriously overstuffed…life is too short!  Slipcovered pillows make them very easy to clean and swap out with the season.

Here are a few of our favorites:

How To Style A Console

One of our favorite pieces of furniture is the console.  It’s functional, versatile, and fun to style! Consoles are traditionally used in entryways, but work well in many other spaces. We love them in family rooms (under a mounted tv), behind sofas, in dining rooms, playrooms and even bedrooms.

console

The first thing to consider when choosing a console is the style you are going for in the space. Think about whether you want something modern, coastal or transitional. The Pineapple Girls have many favorites, from Coastal Fresh to Modern Organic …a console made of natural materials is truly something special.

inspire3

There are a wide variety of styles and finishes for consoles. Some have shelves or drawers for storage, and others are open underneath, leaving the perfect spot for poufs or ottomans that can be pulled out for extra seating.   Consoles are made with many different materials, such as wood, lacquer, reclaimed wood, textured lacquer,  or metal and glass.

To style a console, first think about what will go on the wall above it.  Some great art or a mirror works well here.  Don’t hang the piece too high.  It should be hung 4″-6″ above the console.

Next, add a great pair of matching table lamps on either side.  There are so many great options for lighting today, so try going out of your comfort zone and choose some fun lamps that will make a statement in the room.

Between the lamps, you can add a low bowl, picture frames, a decorative box or a sculpture. Choose smaller items that scale with the lamps.  When choosing your decorative objects, keep it simple and classic.  You don’t want the console to be overly cluttered.

pineapplespalms7

A few final tips: think about balance and symmetry when styling your console. Experiment with a few different looks and don’t be afraid to switch it up when you are ready for a change.
