How To Style A Console

One of our favorite pieces of furniture is the console.  It’s functional, versatile, and fun to style! Consoles are traditionally used in entryways, but work well in many other spaces. We love them in family rooms (under a mounted tv), behind sofas, in dining rooms, playrooms and even bedrooms.

The first thing to consider when choosing a console is the style you are going for in the space. Think about whether you want something modern, coastal or transitional. The Pineapple Girls have many favorites, from Coastal Fresh to Modern Organic …a console made of natural materials is truly something special.

There are a wide variety of styles and finishes for consoles. Some have shelves or drawers for storage, and others are open underneath, leaving the perfect spot for poufs or ottomans that can be pulled out for extra seating.   Consoles are made with many different materials, such as wood, lacquer, reclaimed wood, textured lacquer,  or metal and glass.

To style a console, first think about what will go on the wall above it.  Some great art or a mirror works well here.  Don’t hang the piece too high.  It should be hung 4″-6″ above the console.

Next, add a great pair of matching table lamps on either side.  There are so many great options for lighting today, so try going out of your comfort zone and choose some fun lamps that will make a statement in the room.

Between the lamps, you can add a low bowl, picture frames, a decorative box or a sculpture. Choose smaller items that scale with the lamps.  When choosing your decorative objects, keep it simple and classic.  You don’t want the console to be overly cluttered.

A few final tips: think about balance and symmetry when styling your console. Experiment with a few different looks and don’t be afraid to switch it up when you are ready for a change.

Introducing…The Throwbed

What is a Throwbed?

It’s a down and fiber filled cushion that is roughly the same size as a twin bed. The cushion is covered in a removable and washable linen. It comes to you rolled up in a matching bag with a shoulder strap. It’s completely portable and very versatile.

How to use a Throwbed?

The bed is meant to be used as its name implies to just “throw down” anywhere. Indoor or outdoor, country or urban. You will find a useful place for this chic little bed. Take it to the beach…Roll it up, toss it in the car. It only weighs four pounds so it’s not a big deal to travel with it.

The Pineapple Girls have been known to use them for sleepovers with the kids and even at the foot of a bed, perfect for a quick nap on a cozy day at home.

The THROWBED is a fun, chic cross between a mattress and pouf while being light enough to roll up and take on the go.  How fun are these?

5 Ways To Update Your Coastal Inspired Home For The Season

January makes us think of renewal and a fresh start. While full-scale home renovations are fun, sometimes even small changes can make your home feel new.  Here are a few of our favorite ways to update your beach house without breaking the bank:

1Throw Pillows. Adding new pillows to your sofas and chairs is a tried and true way to freshen up your decor! The Pineapple Girls love luxurious, overstuffed pillows like the ones below that were designed by John Robshaw.

Add a piece of artwork.  The right piece of art can transform a space.  We love a crisp, white room…but art can add a nice pop of color. Art can also show personality and spark fun conversation!

3Add a statement chandelier.  With so many beautiful options for lighting, a beaded or rope chandelier can add a subtle, modern coastal touch to classic decor.

4Update your rugs.  Switching out your area rugs is a simple and powerful way to add texture and layers to a space. Rugs are also a great way to cover up wear and tear on your flooring until you are able to replace the floors.
