How To Choose A Table Lamp

Table Lamps provide more than just light. They add an element of design and complete the style you are trying to achieve. Sometimes, we buy table lamps simply for the design aspect, but most often, we need lamps to provide function as well as style. Choosing the right lamp for your needs can be intimidating. Below are a few tips to help you make the right selection.

PURPOSE.

What type of lighting do you need for a particular space? Are you looking for a lamp that provides adequate lighting for reading, or simply create a beautiful ambiance for the room?

SIZE.

The height should be chosen depending on where the lamp is placed. For example, tall lamps look great on entry consoles or in large rooms with high ceilings. On side tables, make sure when seated you can’t see the inside of the fixture under the shade. Shorter lamps are ideal for desks and task lighting. Your shade should not extend beyond the table, console or dresser.

PLACEMENT.

If your furniture is floating and not against a wall, you will need to have floor outlets in the room. Also, consider the height and overall size of the accessories on the same table, console or dresser. You should use accessories with varying heights to create interest.

STYLE.

Think about the look you are trying to achieve. Lamps should compliment the existing style of the space, but also add a great design element. It’s fun to play with colorful shades. Navy looks great in a nautical inspired space. Clean white linen can blend in any decor.
