Stool Roundup: Fresh Ways To Add Extra Seating To Your Home

It’s the holiday season. A time to gather with family and friends. We love stools and poufs for extra seating when entertaining guests. These are so easy to tuck under a console or pull up to a coffee table. They also work well as side tables that do not take up much space. Add a decorative and practical element to any room!

Fall Favorites

The cooler temperatures make us think of apple picking, cozy throw blankets, crisp white pumpkins and stick lanterns. Fall is definitely about cozy! Try adding some soft throw blankets or new throw pillows to your space for a whole new look.

As we have mentioned, we love a simple centerpiece of white pumpkins and antlers, with an organic tray or bowl.

Here is a yummy Fall recipe, right from the Pineapple Girls’ kitchen! This dessert is always a crowd pleaser.

Apple Dapple Cake

1 1/2 cups oil
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cups chopped nuts
3 cups diced apples

1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup milk

Mix oil and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla and beat well. Sift together flour, salt and soda. Mix into eggs. Add nuts and apples and mix by hand. Bake into greased and floured bundt pan for 1 hour and 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from oven and pour icing over cake in pan.

Cool in pan for at least 2 hours.

{While cake is baking, bring all icing ingredients to a boil and boil for 1. 5 minutes. }

We are blue and white lovers for sure, but adding yellow to the mix is really fun!   These Celerie Kemble Lemon Pillows add just the right amount of  pop!

Artisan Profile: Grant Tankoos

Grant Tankoos is the founder of Soundview Millwork, based in Darien, Connecticut. The company is  dedicated to crafting “fine and custom wood products for land and sea.”

We love their appetizer boards, and they are extremely popular at Pineapples, Palms, Etc. The boards are completely customizable. Everything from the types of handles to the text or artwork on the board can be personalized. They can be used for cheese, appetizers, steaks or as traditional cutting boards.

Grant Tankoos launched the company in 2008. From the start, Tankoos, who loves boating wanted to “create a really great nautically inspired gift.”

Grant’s father came up with the idea to personalize the boards, and 90% of their products are customized.

The cutting boards are crafted out of American hard maple and Santos mahogany from South America.

All of the products are made in America. When they first started, they were making boards from scrap lumber in the garage of Tankoo’s dad, reclaiming oak and Maple from pallets and construction sites. The company takes great pride in the fact that all of their pieces are still hand made in the USA and stand behind their product 100%.

The finishing process and product preparation is unlike any other – each part and board is inspected through the many phases of the production and finishing process.  They start with the finest American maple and Santos mahogany – both known for their durability and tight grain pattern. For the finishing process they first dampen the board, causing the grain pattern to raise. Once dried, they hand sand the boards and apply 3 coats of mineral oil to the boards, fully saturating the pores and protecting them from staining, moisture, bacteria, etc.

We love these boards and are proud to carry them as part of our collection at Pineapples, Palms, Etc.!

How To Create A Navy + White Bedroom

Navy and white is the perfect classic color combination for a modern coastal bedroom. The Pineapple Girls design team recently created this bedroom for a family beach house in Jupiter, Florida. We love the crisp look of this space!

As you know, the Pineapple Girls love blue and white. But there are so many shades of blue! This room is all about focusing on navy, and we love the look.

We started by adding shiplap to the walls and painting it a bright white. Shiplap is so current, and an easy way to add texture and visual interest to a space.

We found this beautiful navy and white fabric  to create a custom, upholstered headboard. If you are going to choose a bold fabric, make sure it is something you really love! We adore this fabric by Quadrille.

Adding a bit of metal breaks up all of the navy and white. The lamps add a metal element, as well as the side tables. These lamps have been very popular in our store..the navy part is actually leather!

A chevron navy and white striped rug adds contrast to the wood floors, and two velvet ottomans with lucite bases make a perfect bench at the foot of the bed.

Outdoor Living

Summer makes us think of dining al fresco, relaxing at the beach and enjoying margaritas on the deck with good friends.

The Pineapple Girls love to work hard and play hard too. In the summer months, you will find us enjoying fun weekends with family, by the ocean or in our own backyards.

Here are a few of our must-have pieces for outdoor living in the summer:

Our exclusive pineapple logo shatterproof wine glasses are perfect for summer fun activities, on the boat, parks, picnics, or on the patio.   The glasses are shatterproof, reusable, recyclable and have an indentation for your thumb, making them easy to hold. Cheers!

When designing your outdoor space, think of it like an indoor living room. There are so many great options now like weather resistant Sunbrella fabrics that not only repeal water and stains, but can be easily wiped off.  Indoor/Outdoor  rugs and pillows, look great, but also resist stains and water!

Lighting your outdoor space is important as the sun sets and we love lanterns! They definitely add ambiance and a bit of magic to a fun summer evening.  We suggest Marine Grade Stainless Steel Lanterns when possible, but if you don’t have them, just move your lanterns inside when not entertaining.

Just because your are outdoors, doesn’t mean you can’t add a lot of style to your furniture and accessories. We love the dramatic Elizabethan shape of this chair- perfect for making an outdoor statement,  thanks to material that can withstand the elements. This chair is also available in a dining chair!

We have talked about our love for throwbeds before. These down and fiber filled cushions are completely portable and very versatile. You can roll it up, toss it in the jeep and head to the beach. Also great for kids to “throw down” for a quick nap or a sleepover.

Classic American Design

In the spirit of summer holidays like Memorial Day and Independence Day, we decided to pay homage to a few of our favorite American designers, and thank them for sharing their inspiration with all of us.

Ralph Lauren

When talking American designers, no name is more recognizable than Ralph Lauren.  He truly redefined American style. Lauren’s classic designs integrate into every lifestyle from country, traditional, and our personal favorite…a clean, coastal style. His traditional blue & white designs in fabrics and home accessories  remain timeless, yet fresh. In design, simply saying it’s very “Ralph” gives a vision that everyone understands. We are proud to be a Ralph Lauren dealer and have the opportunity to feature his great American Style in many of our designs.

Barclay Butera

Barclay Butera has based his career on a passion for beautiful yet livable design. Butera is based in Los Angeles, and has a distinctive signature style. It is classic with a french twist that is flawlessly integrated into traditional, transitional and contemporary interiors alike.  It’s a brand that resonates with us and our customers.

Aerin Lauder

AERIN  a global luxury lifestyle brand inspired by the signature style of it’s founder, Aerin Lauder.  Based on the premise that living beautifully should be effortless, the brand develops curated collections in the worlds of beauty, fashion accessories and home decor.  Classic, but always with a modern point of view.  The Pineapple Girls love her luxury home decor pieces, and incorporating them into our design projects, as well as our retail store.

John Robshaw

A Pineapple Girls favorite, Robshaw is a textile designer with a passion for art, gathering ideas, techniques and unique perspectives from a myriad of world travels. He studied traditional block printing in China, printmaking in Rome and fell in love with the fabric making traditions of local artisans during a trip to India.  John Robshaw designs fit seamlessly into our coastal style and we look forward to his new introductions at every market.

Jonathan Adler

We love his sense of fun and distinct style of “Modern American Glamour”. He recently brought his talents to our neck of the woods with design of the Eau Hotel & Spa in Manalapan, Florida.

Kid & Pet Friendly Home Decor

Is it possible to have a stylish home with young children and pets living there? We say yes! Here are a few of our best tips when designing a space with little (or furry) ones in mind.

There are so many great outdoor fabric options now, and these also work well indoors. These fabrics resist moisture and most stains. Other stain resistant fabrics like denim and canvas work well, too.

A great place to use the outdoor fabric is in the kitchen…on barstools, benches or banquettes.  Indoor/Outdoor fabrics have improved dramatically, with a softer feel and great looking textures.

The Pineapple Girls love slipcovers, they are so easy to throw in the washing machine! Don’t be afraid to use a light color, even white! You can bleach them.

Durable flooring is important for homes with kids and dogs.  Some ceramic tile has the look of hardwood, but is maintenance free, and a great choice.  Add an indoor/outdoor area rug to get the style your looking for, and they are super easy to clean!

Try to avoid hard edges on the tables. We love round dining tables!  Better for fun conversation at family dinners.

Finally, choose a washable good quality paint to easily remove scuffs and little hand prints.
